FINAL EXAMINATION 2012

ART AND DESIGN

Grade: 9

Write your candidate number, name, and question number on the top right hand corner of the front of each sheet of paper.

You are required to select one question and expected to produce 4 pages of A3 supporting work during the preparatory period (this may or may not be double sided).

The supporting work including:

·         Research your chosen question, document and record with the use of sketches, notes and your own  photographs from first hand study and, where appropriate, secondary sources;

·         Use the sources above, produce preparatory studies showing the investigation,  development of your ideas and process, and experimentation of materials and techniques;

·         Work from direct observation from primary sources. If photographs are used, it should be your own photographs.

Supporting studies must be done on Friday 18 ^th May 2012

Supporting studies must be taken into the examination room and must be submitted for the assessment together with the final examination work.

All questions in this paper carry equal marks.

Answer one question.

1. Design a logo for a chain of internet cafes which also sells snacks and drinks. The name of the chain, www.snax, must be included in your design. In addition show how the logo might look on a café façade or on the web page.

2.  Either (a) Design a poster promoting travel and tourism in your local area. Include the name of your country or local area in the title.

Or      (b) Use the following as stimulus for a design brief of choice, you may produce your work in any appropriate medium, and add a decorative border and/or an illustration if appropriate.

Remember your past and you will have a future.

3. Either (a) Create a repeat pattern based on laces and/or buttons or laces and/or zips.

 Or      (b) Create a repeat pattern based on local traditional masks or local traditional dance.

4. Design a costume for a performer of a play called ‘The Insects’
